WHAT IS A SUSTAINER CSA?

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Having worked on farms for over a decade, we recognize that access to quality local food is an economic privilege. We are grateful to the many customers and CSA members who have and continue to support our farm business, but also understand the complex barriers many people within our community face that prevent them from enjoying our produce.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, over the past two years a community member has privately fund raised, securing donations that have sustained CSA memberships for families and individuals experiencing economic and social hardship. This program has been a huge success, supplying close to 100 households per year with Red’s weekly CSA bags, and even offering home delivery to those with transportation challenges. These CSA members have loved getting Red’s produce— some noticing health improvements as a result of access to more fresh vegetables, herbs, and fruit.

Since 2020, we have been working closely with Durham Center for Senior Life and Samaritan Health Center to help coordinate this Sustainer CSA initiative to identify community members in need, coordinate drop offs and scheduling, and maintain communication including translating services. We are proud to partner with these organizations and recognize the opportunity to offer even more produce to even more community members— that’s where you come in. Your donation as a CSA Sustainer today can help expand our reach, getting more fresh produce into the homes and kitchens of all.
